Bird Flu, Avian Influenza
Bird Flu or Avian Influenza is a virus that normally only infects birds, however more seriously the virus has also infected humans who have come into contact with the disease.

Bird Flu Symptoms
If you develop flu like symptoms after a visit to an Avian Influenza area then you should contact your health center immediately. The virus known as H5N1 is an incredibly aggressive virus that causes severe respiratory symptoms, pneumonia and organ failure. Other symptoms can include:

Areas Affected by Bird Flu
Reported areas of Bird Flu include Asia, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, China, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia

Testing For Bird Flu
This will largely depend on your symptoms. Blood tests are often taken along with testing and monitoring your organ functions and breathing rate.

Preventing Bird Flu Infection
The virus is spread through direct contact with an infected bird especially its faeces and saliva or contaminated surface.

Treatment for Bird Flu
Immediate isolation and careful monitoring of individuals condition and subsequent treatment. An antiviral medication is often given to help combat the virus.
