Virgen de Las Candelaria Festival
The Virgen de Las Candelaria Festival is a religious, cultural and music event involving lively celebrations throughout the town in honour of the patroness.

The festival begins with a very large procession through the town with followers carrying a beautifully decorated statue of the Virgen de la Candelaria who wears a golden crown, a halo and is clothed in a colourful dress whilst surrounded by flowers and angels. As the statue parades the streets flower petals are carefully thrown over her and various images are laid out on the floor, many of which are also prepared using flower petals.

For several days during the festival there are enormous music and dance competitions featuring dances such as the La Diablada dance which is particularly striking due to the huge and elaborate costumes that are worn by the participants.

Towards the end of the event there is a further energetic parade of colourful dancers, musicians and many other groups in front of the statue of the Virgen de la Candelaria as well as plenty of firework displays.
