Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
This has to be one of the most famous beaches in Rio de Janeiro. The beach itself stretches for around 4 kilometers and contains beautiful clean sand to relax and unwind on. The sea is suitable for swimming, body boarding and surfing and does get very busy with locals and tourists alike who take advantage of its close proximity to the city.

Copacabana is filled with restaurants, bars, nightclubs and hotels and there is always a busy bustling atmosphere no matter what time it is. Along the beach front is the Avenida Atlantica which has many little kiosks along it where you can buy food and drinks and also contains a wonderful wavy mosaic sidewalk that was designed by Roberto Burle Marx and adds to the stunning beach front.

There are also two historic forts located at either end of Copacabana beach, Fort Copcabana and Fort Duque de Caxias which is the oldest. Fort Copacabana is open daily and gives you the chance to learn more about the history of Copacabana by visiting its museum and Fort Duque de Caxias is located at the top of Leme Hill and offers amazing views of Copacabana beach.

Safety
There are lifeguard towers along the beach and as with most beaches it is advisable to leave any personal possessions at home and only take what is necessary such as sun cream, beach towel and a hat.

Copacabana beach is situated approximately 2 kilometers from Sugar Loaf Mountain and Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas and 10 kilometers from the Santos Dumont Airport.
