Christmas (Navidad)
The Christmas season is very well celebrated in Seville often beginning with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception in early December and ending after the Three Kings Parade and Epiphany in January.

The Day of the Immaculate Conception at the beginning of December often starts the festive season and includes events such as the Los Seises dance which features around 10-12 choirboys performing a 15th century dance to music in front of the beautiful alter within Seville Cathedral. On the eve of the Immaculate Conception there are several music recitals in front of the Statue dedicated to the Immaculate Conception within the Plaza del Triunfo which is surrounded by Seville Cathedral, Real Alcazares and the General Archive of the Indies in the heart of the city.

Christmas markets such as within the Plaza Nueva and the Feria del Belen which takes place in front of the Cathedral also start to get underway and you'll find a wide range of goods including Christmas decorations, gift ideas and plenty of figurines that are required to produce your own nativity scene for the home readily available.

The streets are beautifully lit up especially the Avenida de la Constitucion and there are several nativity scenes on display within squares, churches and other venues throughout the city, many of which contain a great deal of detail.

Christmas Day is often the chance for families to spend time together and a traditional feast is a popular choice with small gifts also often exchanged on this day as well as on the Epiphany which is after the Three Kings Parade on the 5th of January which often holds more importance than the 25th of December.

During the Three Kings Parade the sweet bread known as Roscon de los Reyes is eaten, which is often decorated with sugar and candied fruits and contains a hidden figurine and a bean, with the tradition that whoever receives the figurine is King or Queen for the Day and whoever receives the bean must pay for the roscon the following year.
