Royal Theatre (Teatro Real)
The impressive Royal Theatre is situated adjacent to the Royal Palace and was eventually completed after many decades in 1850 after a Royal Order by Queen Isabel II.

The hexagonal shaped theatre has a beautiful grand facade with archways and columns very similar in design to that of the Royal Palace as well as an elaborate interior which includes areas such as the Red Hall and Blue Hall which have both been carefully furnished with paintings, mirrors and chandeliers not to mention the theatre itself which also has decorative balconies and furnishings throughout.

The Royal Theatre or Teatro Real offers seating for well over 1700 as well as private boxes that include Royal Box, with regular performances of ballet, recitals and opera for which it is most well known taking place throughout the year. There are also guided tours and a museum that offers plenty of information about the history of this fascinating building and several cafes situated nearby.

The Royal Theatre is located opposite the Royal Palace just the other side of the Plaza de Oriente.
