New Years Eve (Noche Vieja)
New Years Eve is celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout Madrid with plenty of gatherings and parties taking place at many venues in particular at the Puerta del Sol.

Madrid's well known square the Puerta del Sol is one of the most popular places to be on New Years Eve with simply thousands gathering within this famous square which contains the important clock tower above the House of the Post Office which upon each chime of the clock at midnight the tradition of the Twelve Grapes Of Luck is celebrated.

The tradition involves eating a grape upon each chime of the bell at midnight which is said to bring luck and prosperity to each of the twelve months of the year ahead and there are no end of grape sellers in and around the square helping to keep this tradition in full swing.

Other celebrations include private parties at many of the nightclubs, bar and restaurants and there is often an impressive firework display within the Puerta del Sol as well to welcome the new year in in style.
