Feast Of Assumption
The Feast of the Assumption (La Asuncion de la Virgin) is a well celebrated Roman Catholic event in honour of when the Virgin Mary was taken up into heaven at the end of her time on earth.

There are religious street processions where images and statues of the Virgin Mary are carefully carried upon floats through the streets from their home parish often to a Cathedral and then back again.

Participants wear traditional clothing including the long penitent robes and hoods which have the distinctive pointed hats, while others in the procession carry candles and crosses and are accompanied by marching bands with the burning of incense along the route adding to the atmosphere.

On the Feast of the Assumption many Catholics will attend mass as it is a holy day of obligation, as well as partake in or watch in the processions.

Date Of Festival
The Feast of the Assumption takes place every year on the 15th of August.

The Feast of Assumption is celebrated throughout the country, focussing around the churches and Cathedrals.
