Easter (Semana Santa)
Easter is celebrated throughout much of Spain and features elaborate and often passionate religious processions of richly decorated floats carrying icons of Jesus and the Virgin Mary.

There are numerous processions taking place which are organised by religious brotherhoods who each organise and participate in their own events for their individual church.

During the processions the impressive floats are carried by often well over 20 people who carefully carry the floats from each of the brotherhoods home parish around the streets often towards a Cathedral, before heading home.

Many of the participants will be traditionally dressed wearing the penitential robes which are often black or red in colour with the distinctive pointed hats which also cover their faces.

Other members within the procession can often be seen wearing white robes and carrying palm leaves with the whole procession accompanied by marching bands who help the procession keep time.

Easter processions usually take place on Palm Sunday (Domingo de Ramos), Holy Wednesday (Miercoles Santo), Maundy Thursday (Jueves Santo), on Good Friday (Viernes Santo), Easter Saturday (Sabado Santo) and Easter Sunday or Resurrection Sunday (Domingo Santo).

Date Of Easter
Easter is a moveable feast with the date varying from between the 22nd of March and the 25th of April, that takes place either on or shortly after the first full moon of the spring equinox.

Easter is widely celebrated throughout the country including within cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Granada and Seville.
