Festa della Madonna delle Neve
This is a deeply religious celebration in honour of the Virgin Mary, also known as Our Lady Of The Snow who as legend has it, appeared to Pope Liberio (352-366) to build a church and indicated the location with snow upon the top of Esquiline Hill.

The celebration takes place at the very location where she was said to have performed the miracle that covered the area with snow and where the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore was subsequently built.

Each year on the 5th of August a re-enactment of this event takes place whereby white petals are used to beautifully descend from the ceiling in honour of this remarkable event.

The church itself is well worth a visit and features a stunning interior with a recessed panel ceiling, mosaic surround, columns that line the interior space and a stunning alter.
