Loreta, Prague, Czech Republic
The Loreta was commissioned in 1626 by the Baroness Beligna Katherina von Lobkowicz and is a Baroque palace that contains a copy of a Santa Casa or Holy House in the very centre of the building which was used as pilgrimage site.

The Santa Casa is positioned in the centre of the courtyard and is based on the legend of the Virgin Mary's house which was moved from Nazareth to Loreto in Italy by angels. The Santa Casa contains beautiful paintings depicting the life of the Virgin Mary and a statue of Our Lady of Loreto behind the alter.

Surrounding the Santa Casa there is a frescoed arcade which leads on to the 6 highly decorated chapels the oldest of which was built in 1686 and is called the Chapel Of Our Lady Of Sorrows. On the first floor you will discover the treasury which contains many unique items such as a beautiful chalice and the Diamond Monstrance called "Prague Sun" which has several hundred diamonds in its makeup.

The building contains the Loretan bells which are 27 bells positioned in the tower above the entrance and they chime on the hour during the day with the tune "We Greet You a Thousand Times", the bells first chimed in 1695.
