Christmas • India
In India Christmas is one of the most popular Christian celebrations and is celebrated in much the same way as it is in other areas of the world offering a great time for families and friends to get together to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Christmas Eve often symbolizes the start of the celebrations where a journey to the local church for Midnight Mass begins the festivities, the churches can often be found richly decorated with red flowers, ornaments, candles and a nativity scene and after Midnight Mass families often return home to enjoy a feast which often includes a delicious curry followed by the exchanging of gifts with one another.

There are often nativity plays performed by children along with plenty of traditional Christmas carols and hymn's sung at Christmas. Homes are often beautifully decorated during this time often featuring large decorative star lanterns and oil lamps which are hung outside, along with decorated Christmas, mango or banana trees as well as nativity scenes.

The markets are often bustling in the week before Christmas with plenty of Christmas decorations, clothing and gift ideas for sale.
