City Palace and The Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum, Jaipur, India
The City Palace was built during the 18th century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh and features several fine examples of elaborate Mughal and Rajasthani architecture.

The palace complex is a vast area featuring many other buildings within it such as the Maharani's Palace which was built for the Royal Queens, Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal and the City Palace Museum, there are also plenty of well laid out courtyards and gardens.

The palace interior is well known for its interior design which features chambers such as the Diwan-i-Aam which contains superb artwork on display on the walls and ceiling. The royal rooms are also exquisitely decorated, in some areas using floral decorations with inlaid gold and mirror work to achieve the desired effect.

The museum contains several collections such as the collection of Royal costumes which feature some incredibly detailed items of clothing in beautiful colours. There is also an armory which houses an impressive collection of swords, daggers and other weapons used over the centuries.

Other items on display include horse drawn carriages, musical instruments and two massive silver jars are kept in the audience hall known as the Diwan-i-khas and are thought to be the largest in the world. They were used to transport water from the river Ganga for the emperor to drink on his travels.
