Robben Island, Cape Town, South Africa
Now a World Heritage Site and museum the old prison here serves as a reminder of the price that was paid for freedom.

For many centuries Robben Island was where civilians, soldiers and various African leaders were sent for exile, isolation and imprisonment. The most well known of these was South Africa's first Democratic President, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.

The island has also been used as a hospital and as a training station, and there is a Leper graveyard and Leper Church.
