Hermanus Whale Festival
This immensely popular event welcomes the arrival of the Southern Right Whale to Walker Bay next to Hermanus and the arrival of Spring.

The festival offers quite simply one of the best locations to view the impressive Southern Right Whale which can reach around 15 meters in length and weigh around 50 tonne's and arrive between June and November and feed on the rich krill and plankton which can be found in these waters.

During the festival there is plenty of live music covering a wide range of music genres as well as other entertainment that includes children's entertainment, craft markets and informative educational programmes which help to keep the thousands of visitors who visit the festival thoroughly entertained.

There are several locations around Walker Bay and Hermanus where the whales come very close to the shore, providing visitors some excellent whale watching opportunities from dry land and there are also boats that travel out whale watching.

The festival is often towards the end of September/early October.

Hermanus is located around 75 miles south west of Cape Town.
