Discovery Cape Times Big Walk
This hugely popular long distance walk attracts around 30,000 participants and dates back to 1903 when the Spartan Harriers first organized the event which covered a distance of 50 miles and began from Greenmarket Square.

The event is an incredibly important fund raising event with many of the proceeds going to several different charities each year. The event open to a wide range of ages and fitness levels with the shortest Big Walk distance being about 3 miles and the full walk is 50 miles with a variety of distances to suit all levels in between such as 6, 12, 18 and 30 miles.

Date Of The Big Walk
The date changes annually but is often around the middle of November.

The Big Walk begins at several locations throughout the city depending on the length of course that is to be walked such as starting from Fish Hoek Beach, Cape Town and Newlands with the main 50 mile walk often starting in Simon's Town and finishing in Cape Town.

Simon's Town can be reached via bus or car and is approximately 23 miles south of Cape Town along the coast.
