The Dar El Makhzen
The Dar El Makhzen is also known as the Sultanate Palace and was built in the 17th century by Sultan Moulay Ismail on one of the highest areas of the city, the Kasbah.

The Dar El Makhzen palace contains architecture befitting a palace with elaborately decorated rooms and two separate courtyards that are well set out and feature marble fountains.

The palace now houses two important museums, the Museum of Antiquities and the Museum of Moroccan Arts, where you can gain a great insight into the history of Tangier and Morocco.

The museum offers several historical displays with objects such as carpets, silks, jewelry, manuscripts, weapons, bronzes, traditional costume, art and decorative pieces all of which are wonderfully set out in this superb location.
